last night's sunset

There aren't many good sunsets over the winter and much of the Spring, so its been a while since posting any.  When I took this one last night, I noticed my hands are shaking more than usual.  This does not thrill me.  Set at 1/60th of a second, as you can see I wasn't able to hold the camera steady, though I tried every trick to do so.  Bums me out.

163/365 architecture

I know nothing about this subject, really.  The only architect I'm familiar with is Frank Lloyd Wright -- some of his stuff gets me, like the Guggenheim museum in NYC, and some not so much, like his famed home, Tallesin, or some such name.
I admire more earthy structures, round domes and such.  Homes built with the trees coming into the living room.  Although I do admire a sleek look as well, as long as it's somewhat lived in.
The architecture around the neighborhood is nothing to speak of.  The design on this building shows a woman's head, and a bit above that it appears to be a viking ship of some sort.

sunset sunday

Trying to fnd sunsets I've never posted before for this sunday's sunset.  I think this is one of them.  I like the soothing yellows.

Oops, I guess it's in my header collage.  Oh well.  click on it to view a larger image.

moonset sunday

I opted for a moonset today, instead of a sunset.  This was taken a couple of years ago during an early morning moon setting.

sunset sunday

Scott Law, at Just Used Pixels,. told me about something called Sunday Sunset, so I'd thought I'd join in with one of my many sunsets.

mild winter

Except for one freezing day a couple of days ago, the weather has been unbelievably mild.  In the 50's today.  Last year at this time we were set for blizzards and such.  Still a couple of months of winter left, so I wonder what will be?  Any snow in the future?
Here was tonight's sunset.  You can just see how mild a day it was.

bursts of color

Although this photograph is blurry, I kind of like it, especially in the tree.  I gave it a boost in color, and I think the result is fun. It's one of the last of the trees that still has some autumn leaves lingering.

coffee and sunrise

This morning I woke at 4am.  Then I saw my best friend, evie, come online at 5am.  She suggested we have coffee and watch the sunrise.  She lives across the hall from me, so she has an East view, whereas I get the sunset with the West view.  Evies windows don't open right now because she had to put a stick in the top to keep it from falling down.  We have pitiful windows in this apartment house.  They are double-paned, and not air-tight, so condensation builds inside of them, and the windows always look dirty.
I took this photo through one of evie's better windows.  Mind you, it is taken behind 2 panes of glass and a screen, so that's why it's not too clear.  So, for a change, here's today's sunrise.

Hope you have a sunny day.

no traffic

The light I see in morning is rather ordinary light, coming from the East (I face WNW) and lightly coloring the buildings across the way.  The sky in the west is not glorious like evening time, but rather dull.  But there is a quiet that comes with this time, and it makes these things look all the more richer for it.

unknown neighbors at night

Come night time I wonder about the people behind the glowing curtains and red reflections (coming from the Best Western Hotel sign across the street on this side of the street).  In such close proximity, people retain their sense of space by not getting to know each other.  I used to like the anonymity of apartment dwelling, but I have long since gotten over that.  I would like to live in a one family house, preferably, but that is just a daydream, really.  Anything like that would cost a fortune.  But to live in a 2 or 3 family would be nice, too.  A place where maybe you do get to know your neighbors.  Oh, to have that garden I've wanted forever.

Anyway, I live in a city, a borough, a county, a neighborhood.  Just a step away from the 1 and 2-family houses that number the places on the lower avenues... Ridge Blvd, Colonial Road, Narrows Ave., Shore Road... where the better off among us live.

Ah, they, too, must have curtains that they hide behind at night.  Though I doubt there are any neon reflections.

early morning light, looking NW

The sun was just rising in the east.  You can see 2 seagulls under the cloud if you enlarge the photo.  They are traveling to breakfast, in the harbor, just beyond the trees..

brooklyn promenade - brooklyn heights

Today was a beautiful sunny day, breezy and dry. Went with my photo group down to the Brooklyn Promenade in Brooklyn Heights.
