the weekend in black and white
I just found this blog, called The Weekend in Black and White. Looks like a fun spot to find other photographer's blogs and such.
This is the picture I'm entering for this week's challenge. It was taken at the Museum of Modern Art.

on following
I have a lot of followers, and I have never heard from the greater majority of them. I do have a generous amount of blog followers who actually follow me, and let me know by commenting, and I'm really thankful for those of you who do that. You know who you are.
I wonder about these quiet "followers", though. Are they just following so their picture shows up on my blog, in the hopes that others will click on it? I know some followers are actually people who have something to sell... so I think that's their motive.
Today I actually got a comment from a new follower. That was a nice for a change.
The numbers lie, I think. Ain't that many people following me! But the numbers look good. Oooh, I'm popular. Yea, right.
And then there are those people whose blogs you comment on repeatedly and they never respond back in kind. Do you get that? I mean a little hello once in a while wouldn't hurt.
So thankful for those of you who DO say hello.

A series of pictures showing Logan (my great-nephew, for those of you who don't know) playing in the street with big chalks. This was at a recent block party. He's 22 months now.

blog award from Carol
This lovely award was given to me by Carol, of ArtMuseDogs . Please take time to visit her creative and inspiring blog. Thank you, Carol!
The idea of this award is that you have to tell 15 things about yourself (not an easy task, let me tell you), and then pass the award (and the rules) onto 4 other people. I know a lot of people don't accept awards, but I hope to find some who do. Have fun with this!
The award recipients are:
HerSpeak.
Blissful Bohemian.
Stephanie's Photography.
Shuttering Heights.
Now, here's 15 things about me:
1. I have 2 tattoos (both of wolves)
2. I have a sister who is 6 years older than me, and everybody says we look like twins.
3. I lived in Lapland,Finland for 3 months back in 2006.
4. When I was in my twenties I used to go skinny-dipping.(even though I was never skinny.)
5. I'm obsessed with taking pictures of my great-nephew, Logan.
6. I'm also obsessed with taking pictures of sunsets. (as if you didn't know).
7. I love to be in the woods.
8. I've studied Shamanism and have had many good journies.
9. I like to smudge my house with sage and cedar.
10. I smoke cigarettes.
11. The Wolf is my spirit animal.
12. I get along with Crows.
13. I once had a baby blue jay named "Blue", and he was rehabilitated and set back into the wilds of Central Park, near Belvedere Castle.
14. I miss my father.
15. I'm thankful for my mother.

textures
It was a short photo walk today. People showed up late, so we were late getting started. Didn't walk too far due to time constraints.
Today's theme was "Textures", which we could follow or not, as we pleased. Here are a few of my shots. As usual, click on the pics to view a larger image.

unknown neighbors at night
Come night time I wonder about the people behind the glowing curtains and red reflections (coming from the Best Western Hotel sign across the street on this side of the street). In such close proximity, people retain their sense of space by not getting to know each other. I used to like the anonymity of apartment dwelling, but I have long since gotten over that. I would like to live in a one family house, preferably, but that is just a daydream, really. Anything like that would cost a fortune. But to live in a 2 or 3 family would be nice, too. A place where maybe you do get to know your neighbors. Oh, to have that garden I've wanted forever.
Anyway, I live in a city, a borough, a county, a neighborhood. Just a step away from the 1 and 2-family houses that number the places on the lower avenues... Ridge Blvd, Colonial Road, Narrows Ave., Shore Road... where the better off among us live.
Ah, they, too, must have curtains that they hide behind at night. Though I doubt there are any neon reflections.

rooftop images
(I've taken this same shot a number of times. Sometimes I'm lucky
enough to get a blue sky out of it, but today was overcast and grey.)
(I don't know what these contraptions are, but I think they have
something to do with a cell phone tower on the roof.
Who knows what a health risk that is. The landlord never bothered
to inform the tenants that this thing would be put on the roof.)

a peek inside
These are by no means elegant pictures, but they were part of an assignment for my photography group. It is sort of a meme in pictures. We were to show 3 meals, 2 home photos, 1 photo en route to somewhere, one loved one(s), one photo capturing a feeling, and one self-portrait.
Here are my results... As usual, click on the pics for a larger view.
