the need for more wreckage

I have been remiss in updating my Wreck This Journal process. The book tends to get me mad because I want to do more wrecking to the pages than I seem called to do. I don't know if that makes any sense. Probably not.
I took the damn book into the shower with me.... how nuts was that? Showering with a book? Ha, it didn't even get all that ruined, but achieved a nice puffy look.
I also cut the book up... well some of the pages, and drew ugly pictures for it too. Just working on ruining the cover. What a strange process. I still am not enthralled with it, and wish I could be more creatively destructive, as I've seen other people being with their journals! Here are the latest pics.

  2. Good gimmick, I guess. I'm not feeling it! I guess I'm creatively destructive enough, and don't need to go so very far outside the box.

  3. A project like that would leave me a quivering mess. I simply wouldn't be able to willingly destroy a journal. I'm weird like that, but I still have some beautiful stationery that was given to me as a high school graduation gift and it is unopened and untouched. I can't make myself use it. I also have several nice writing journals, leatherbound, etc. that remain pristine. Any actual writing I do goes into cheap spiral notebooks. I give you props for being able to do this at all.

  5. Not bad at all ... :) It really takes some time to get used to the wrecking. I found myself losing some of the wrecking creativity, probably is the system (inner one) telling me to slow down ...

  6. Hey leek, write me a letter on that beautiful writing paper! What are you waiting for?
I had so many journals (used) that used to be beautiful, but my cat (little guy) got into the habit of scratching the spines to threads. Apparently, he's very into wrecking journals!

Judi... Yup! Pinking Shears... and they're mine, so I can do whatever I want with them, lol.

Thanks, Hybrid J... it does take sometime to learn how to wreck recklessly!

  7. It's the end result that determines the worth of the endeavor eh> Finish then decide if it was worth the trouble...but don't forget to edit once you're done.

  8. It might come to you suddenly, like bumping into an old friend on the street, or it might never work itself into enthusiasm. It's all good. It's the process that's important wherever it leads us :)

  9. Lots of wrecking going on! I love your page of ugly things. I haven't managed that one yet.

If you could imagine doing one thing with the book that would make you say, 'Yes, I am SO glad I did that' what would it be?

  13. Why not just grab some colored pens and pencils and have at it!? Your pages are great. I too took pinking shears to my pages. And your dead bird made me laugh!

  14. hello barbara, i'm not into this project and i'm skeptical about it, except my dear friend jessie is doing it too, so that counts for something. this reminds me of the book called 'shitty first drafts'.

basically: just do it and let the lessons come afterwards.

    i hope you are well

  15. Just starting the reads here Barbara. I'm going to take a bit of down time, consider the pros and cons of destruction of a journal. From where I sit there looms into mine decrepit old eye (one is still good) a good three quarter dozen journals, all of almost pristine condition. The 'almost' was a result of a cantankerous old witch kitty, Princess Ebony. There's 21 years of her marks on those. Prizes in themselves.

Maybe if I start a new journal and wreck havoc as I go?

Continue, Please! I'm enjoying myself here.

  17. Hey Barb! I have this journal- I have the same problem! I am just not happy with my level of creative destruction! lol - now if I could just cover the whole thing with paint and set it on fire, eh? maybe when I finally get through it...
    Have a great week!
    :o)

  19. I got a little stuck on mine as well. I haven't been very good at putting my updates up. I kind of lost interest in it a little bit. Some of the things were just plain gross while others weren't creative enough for my liking. I still think it was a good experience though.
