sunrise for a change

I went to the roof this morning, unable to sleep, to catch the sunrise for a change. I am always shooting sunsets, since I have a West facing window, so I thought I'd do something a little different. But sunrise or sunset, they look quite similar, except for the puffy pink clouds which seem distinctive of sunrises.

Just as the sun was rising, my camera seemed to go on the fritz, and wouldn't change its f-stop or speed. The battery was low, so I figured that was the problem. When I got downstairs, I realized I had accidently moved the knob to one of the automatic settings, instead of my usual manual setting. A stupid mistake that I should have noticed right away. Oh, well, missed the full sunrise; maybe some other time.

Here is some very early morning light.

Hmmm, when I try to go to my dashboard, to add this new post, I get an error message... again... I have been trying to get there on and off throught-out the night/morning, and have been having trouble. Same goes for getting to my blog. Definitely a blogger issue that I hope they straighten out soon.

Afterall... I want to post my sunrise pictures in the morning!

welcome june and sapphire

I can't believe it's June already. Time goes faster every year.

It feels like August, though. Temps were in the 90's today, with heat indices near 100°.

The bedroom a.c. decided to die last night, which made for little sleep. But then, this afternoon, it seemed to be working again. I have the living room one on now, with a fan, too, and I'm pretty comfortable in here. Past 9pm now, still 85°, feels like 89°. I am not a happy camper.

My friend, evie, adopted another cat from the animal rescue. This little girl is a beauty, and so sweet. Only 4lbs right now, but they say the female Balinese averages 5-6 lbs., and is the most petite of all breeds. She is a Seal-Point Balinese. Welcome, to Sapphire Skye!

rambling on a friday night

It is hot, and I can't wait until the sun goes down. It sets out on its descent and shines in my living room windows, making it hotter still. The humidity has my skin moist and sticky. Oh, Summer, why do you always have to come before your time? How pleasant it would have been to have another month of Spring. But nooo....Summer has to come barging in the way it always does. Insistent.

Another hour and a half till the sunsets. I hope it at least graces me with a photo-worthy shot.

Just spent that hour and a half writing on my novel, and then getting a phone call from an old boyfriend who just can't seem to get it in his head that I really don't want to see him, no matter how platonic it would be. Am I a mean person? Am I meant to have lifetime friendships with those I've phased out of my life? We were together sixteen years ago, and for a couple of years after that, and he's been callling me ever since. I've seen him a couple of times between now and then, but not in years, now. Talk about persistent. Geesh!

The sun went down with a whimper, not a bang. It was overcast with barely any color, just lots of grey sky. Not worth a click. The fog is not so interesting from this perspective, just lingering in the distance. Down by the water if might have more effect, but of course I'm not about to take the walk and see. I wish I could photograph the sound of the fog horns.

Well, the sun has long since gone down, but the overbearing humidity remains. Welcome to summer in new york city. You can have it!

friday ramble

The weather has been damp and rainy for days. Getting tired of it now. I guess I don't enjoy the rain as much as I used to, now that it creeps into my bones, and makes me achy. Ah, age... such a joy. NOT.

The other day I babysat for Logan, along with my sister. He is such a little wonder to watch. When he says "hi Barbara" my heart just melts. I love watching him run to the trees when we're outside, and patting the tree. He likes when I pat it, too. Someday we've got to teach him to hug the tree. His spirit is so bright and in touch.

I sit here with nothing much to do or say, so I figured I'd say it in the blog. Awfully boring for you, I suppose! But of course you could just click the X is the upper right hand corner.

I just read two good books.... one was Water For Elephants, and the other was The Art of Racing in the Rain, which is told by a dog, and so so good. I recommend them both.

I'm working on my own book today, which isn't ending so soon, apparently. It's 400 pages on a Word document, so I imagine that's only about 200 real book pages, I don't know. I keep thinking I know where it's going, but these characters have a mind of their own, so you never know. Can't wait to finish it so I can read it beginning to end and start a second draft. This could take years, but at least I could say I did it.

I haven't continued my second novel, because it's just too crazy to be writing two at the same time. I just have the beginning part, which I blogged here. Maybe I will continue writing it in November, for the Nanowrimo (National November Writing Month). By then, maybe I'll know what it's about, hahaha.

Well, I'm just rambling, so I'll end here. Hope you are all having a fine day.

Blogger being a bitch

Just a note to say that if you don't see your comments (or at least 4 from the previous post), it's because Blogger is screwing up.  I appreciate your comments, and publish all of them, of course.  I hate to lose any.  I hope that Blogger can restore them.  Reminds me of the transient nature of the blog itself.  No doubt it could be gone tomorrow, and wouldn't that be a bummer?  Hopefully, they won't let that happen.

my 300th post

Another sunset, of course.
