nano down the draino

On the day Nanowrimo started (Nov 1st), I had completely forgot about it. That night, I managed to eek out 747 words, not even enough for a minimum needed word count for a day, but it was something. Now it is the 8th day, and I haven't written a word more. My mind has been very preoccupied by the malady of the quotidian, so to speak, and writing hasn't been one of those preoccupations.

I haven't yet finished the first novel I started during the last Nanowrimo. I'm over 111K words, and I can feel the ending in my hands. It's hard to get started on a new novel, especially when it is somewhat of a sequel... But it should stand alone, it's just that this one's main characters were secondary characters in the first novel.

Thus my lack of updates on my Nano-progress. Not sure it'll get any better from here on out... it may just be bad timing right now.

  1. I keep hearing about NaNoWriMo but have no idea what it is. I'm so out of the loop! 111K words is very impressive, whatever it is!

  2. It's the National Novel Writing Month (Novemember). The idea is to write a total of 50K words in the one month. Last year I reached 75K by month's end. Thanks for stopping by, shutterflies.

  3. Came across your blog today by accident. Was checking out my NaNo account and I have you listed as a buddy from last year - although I cannot remember why.
Most likely we never "talked". Probably you wrote something that struck me as memorable in one of the forums last year (my first NaNo year).
Anyway, I clicked on your name to see if you were writing this year. And I find out that you are ... even though you seem to be in the midst of the two week doldrums.

Cheer up, verbal outpourings will begin.

  4. Why shouldn't blog posts count for your Nano word count?
They are your words - and they MIGHT find their way into your novel. Or not.

  5. Writing is a lucky gift isn't it? I’ve just started blogging about my own manic break and hospitalization. It’s about recovery and treatment, but more importantly about discovery of a new post-religion faith where there is no hell, no original sin, you are God, and heaven on earth is real, radiant and right around the corner. A wild and triumphant ride. http://graduatingfromgod.blogspot.com/
