After a year and a half of battling infected bedsores, my mother has passed away. My heart is broken. She was the strongest woman I've ever known, so full of life. I pray she is in heaven with my father now, and dancing the Lindy with him. She had such a hard life. and now she is at peace. I love you mommy.
i am so very sorry, barbara. i well know how great this loss is. i hope you have someone involved or nearby to share in your grief. that helps. and so, i think and hope, does time

My condolences Babs, she was my favorite Aunt because she was so fun to be around even though as you said, her life wasnt easy.
ReplyDeleteI remember when your familiy would come visit in Suffern she would always drive even though she had to cross one leg over the other and use the left leg. I also remember when it was time to leave she would always say "its time to hit the road" To this day I use that expression and know I got it from her. Funny the things that stick with you. I also remember another time when I was 14 or 15 and I took the bus to see you and didnt know how to go from NYC to Bklyn. she came and picked me up. For some reason you stayed behind and it was just the 2 of us. We had quite a conversation and she treated me like an adult. I remember she drove down the west side and it was very gritty in those days. She pointed out the prostitutes and the gay bars with the leather clad men in front and when I asked her about it she said "they're ok, they're just trying to have a good time" and then she laughed the way she did, I can hear her now. Then she shot thru the tunnel and we were in good ol Bklyn. Even though I hadnt seen her much in later life, she was never far from my heart and I like to think she's been reunited with my favorite Uncle Vince

Thanks so much for bringing those memories to life, Ed. She loved you so much, and always thought you took after my dad a lot. So glad we had all those good times to share together when we were younger.
ReplyDeleteMy deepest regrets at being unable to attend her wake. I left for Florida on the 13th to attend my friend Dave's wedding (you remember him) in St. Petersburg on the 14th, returned on the 19th. Sorry I missed you all. Hope this is a better year for you, I know you've been thru a tremendous amount in the last year or so.
